AG's Soapbox Episode 1 -- PETA vs Celebrities

Alright, so recently I watched the news (I always watch the news) and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is at war with many celebrities stating that they are giving a dangerous message to young children by wearing fur. Wow, how I am going to rip this apart.

Alright, let's first state that I do not agree with celebrities wearing furs. Since there are so many alternatives that have the same effect. Now, if you are alone in the woods and it is your ONLY way to stay warm...yes...that is fine. But the very fact that people use fur coats and other types of fur as a social statement, I don't agree with at all.

However, if you are seriously going to say that the most dangerous message celebrities make are wearing fur...well you are SADLY mistaken.

The very fact that it is "cool" to be thin has caused more deaths in the last few years from Anorexia and Bulimia in teenage girls. Now I understand the PETA's main purpose isn't the "Ethical Treatment of Weight" but at the same time, making a big deal out of people wearing furs is taking away from the real dangers in this world. Our people are DYING everyday because this society has shifted the focus of what should be considered "sexy."

Now, I am a firm believer in being healthy (contrary to my recent way of eating), but at the same time, stars these days are thinner than ever and no one is educating children on how to be that thin or to accept if they can NEVER be that thin. No, instead we, as a society, choose to ignore what is important and just allow our children to die...but the moment an animal is killed for some random fur coat it becomes a crime against all mankind.

Let's shift the focus back on people for a moment and see what is really important, I am so sick and tired of people worrying more about the animals and not even giving their own species a quick look. And our children are the victims of such a careless focus. What kind of future do we have if we kill off all of our children?

As always, comments are greatly appreciated, even if you don't agree! Just stay respective of mine and others' opinions.
